THE LIGHT

THE LIGHT
     - Donna DiPietro

The light made its first known appearance when I was eight years old and living with my family in Somerville, Massachusetts. One day my brother Douglas asked me if I knew there was a light following me. He pointed it out on the dining room wall, and my father, my sister Bess and I saw it for the first time. It was about the size of a quarter and white. At first I thought my brother was playing a joke on me, but that wasn’t the case, and the light would make an appearance when other people were not around. We also ruled out a reflection of any sort. My father placed his hand over the light and there was no reflection on his hand. I would be in a room with the door shut and I would look around the room to be sure the light wasn’t there, as I was afraid and didn’t know what it was. Sometimes it would appear after a few minutes right before my eyes, stationary at first, it would slowly move about the room as though examining it. It followed me for about five days. One day, my mother and I were home by ourselves. She was in the kitchen sitting on a chair with her back turned to me and was putting white lace curtains on a stretch rack to dry. I was standing in the threshold from the hall to the kitchen and I saw the light appear on the wall between the hall and pantry. I called to my mother to look at the light, as she had not yet seen it. Before she could turn around, the light moved and went into the pantry, as if to hide. I stood in the doorway and watched it travel into the pantry and I followed it, as my apprehension gave way to wonder. I stood still against the pantry counter and watched as it traveled and explored each shelf. It seemed to find what it wanted when it came to a large bowl to hide behind, and it went around to the back of the bowl where it stayed on the wall for about five seconds until it disappeared. At this point, I felt like its protector, as though it was the spirit of a small child or a loving being. My mother didn’t see it. She was still in the kitchen working on the curtains.

The light was not seen again until about two years later. My mother, father, sister Bess, two brothers and I were visiting my Aunt Kit in Lakeport, New Hampshire. My father and two brothers were sleeping in an attic bedroom and the rest of us were downstairs. My father awoke during the night and saw a light on the wall above my brothers’ bed. The light would be stationary for awhile and then travel slowly around the room as though examining it. Eventually my father got out of bed and went over to the light and placed his hand over it and there was no reflection on his hand. There were no outside lights, no inside lights, no cars. The room was in total darkness except for the mysterious light. He watched the light for at least one half hour before it disappeared. As before, the light showed intelligence and a curiosity. It has been many years since the light’s appearances. I wonder if perhaps the being continues to visit but does not show itself as a light. I mentioned the light to an acquaintance and she said that her grandmother, who was a leader in the Armenian Revolution, had the same type of light around her for a number of days when she was a young girl. I am interested in knowing if others have had a similar experience.

I believe that we are coming into a new world of enlightenment and spiritual knowledge that will advance the human race, but only if we are willing to look for the good in others. We need to look within ourselves first and banish the negativity which is the enemy that is destroying our world and our sense of well being. We must emit good positive energy which will multiply throughout the world or there is a chance there will be no world to protect.
